Author Cindy Goldrich (2015) explains that executive functioning actually refers to seven core sets of mental skills, capacities, and processes that allow us to recognize, strategize, and realize our goals. The prefrontal lobe of the human brain is the seat of executive functioning and research suggests that it doesn’t typically finish developing until we are between 25 to 30 years of age!
